Surat: Poised to shine in the Ease of Living Index!

The EOL (Ease of Living Index) survey is held by the Government of India to assess the quality of life in a particular city by directly engaging with its citizens. This survey helps the government measure various factors that contribute towards the satisfaction of living a good life. Factors such as cleanliness, hygiene, safety, security & cost of living etc. help the government in making data-driven policies. Our Surat city had participated in this survey. Let’s take a look at the factors that will lead Surat to shine bright in this EOL2019 survey. EOL survey considers citizens' opinion about the basic amenities provided by their local government. The citizen feedback survey questionnaire includes queries regarding the cleanliness of the streets, availability of the SBM toilets, working condition of the street lights on the roads, availability of uninterrupted and clean water supply & efficiency as well as affordability of public transportation inside an urban area. Surat aces in each of these categories. Public transportation service in Surat is mainly provided through BRTS & city link buses. It is an easily available mode of transport for every citizen. The efficient network of buses runs on separate lanes- away from the hassle of the city’s traffic. Every major area in Surat is well-connected with each other through multiple flyovers. These flyovers make the cross-area movement of the vehicles easy by eliminating the extra traffic of the main roads. Surat is also one of the most affordable big cities to live in India. SMC’s urban healthcare centres and Suman schools provide the best educational & medical facilities to the citizens at a highly subsidised cost. Multiple slum area development and rehabilitation programs are deployed by the SMC to create a more hygienic and progress-friendly atmosphere in the neighbourhoods. SMC’s vision of holistic development is turning into reality with each passing day. We are reaching newer heights of efficiency with the love, help, and support of our visionary leaders, efficient and hardworking staff, and progressive communities of Surat. EOL2019 will be a stamp of excellence for our ever-evolving city.
