A Step Forward Towards The Clean Surat Dream:
E-Waste Collection & Segregation!

Surat Municipal Corporation had started various E-waste collection & management initiatives during the last Swachh Survekshan 2021. Under SMC’s “Samvedna” initiative, exclusive separate containment bins were contrived and put up for public use at several places that were prone to have regularly recurring E-Waste. For Swachh Survekshan 2021, SMC has planned some great initiatives that’ll develop a smart habit of recycling among the citizens and create a better & greener Surat.
Let’s talk about why we should recycle E-waste. E-Waste is an abbreviation of the term Electronic-Waste. This category of waste contains everything from a cable, computer-chip to a broken cell-phone or any other electronic device. With affordable and dynamic technology, it is obvious that the amount of E-Waste will increase in the coming times. The harmful chemicals like lithium and substances like processed plastic are harmful to our ecosystem. That's why reducing E-Waste is the need of the hour.
    • 1) Recycling E-Waste is easy and can save you a lot of money by salvaging workable parts, cables, ports and circuits of the older devices.
    • 2) When recycled properly, salvaged electronics can provide a rich and lucrative seam of precious metals and other raw materials.
    • 3) E-Waste is really harmful for the environment thus recycling it is the only practical & eco-friendly solution.

Since the last two years, SMC has been regularly conducting E-Waste collection drives as part of an awareness campaign. Every department participates in this drive by properly disposing of their E-wastes. The used electronics are later salvaged & recycled for reuse & resale to curb the harmful health effects of those E-wastes. SMC is doing their bid but now, it is your turn to volunteer & make a difference. Join in SMC’s “Swachh Saturdays” drive & conduct an E-Waste collection drive in your area or society, create an event in the Swachh Manch App & call SMC on 8238227927 to collect the E-Waste for proper recycling. Show your support to make Surat No. 1 in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2020, #No1BanegaSurat.
