After achieving the second rank as India’s cleanest city in 2020, Surat is all set for the Swachh Survekshan 2021.  This time, SMC is poised to take our beloved city to the very top of the “Clean City” rankings. Last year, Surat went through an extensive drive to go plastic-free.  The initiative was quite successful at reducing the usage of single-use plastic. Let’s take a glance at Surat’s great leap forward in Swachh Survekshan Ranking.  It's nothing short of a miracle how Surat rose from #14 to #2 in the clean city ranking in a matter of just a few years. In 2018, Surat took a big decision and became one of the very few cities to be declared as a “Garbage Container Free City”.  This step was rewarded in the Swachh Survekshan 2020 by giving us 5 Stars in GFC (Garbage Free City) ratings. Surat is also one of the very few cities to have ODF++ (Open Defection Free) status. With so many feathers in its hat, Surat has a great chance of winning this Swachh Survekshan with No 1 spot in the clean city rankings. Reflecting this optimism and strong will of the citizens, this year we’ve launched the campaign #No1BanegaSurat. Hundreds of societies are being visited daily by SMC staff to educate people about different aspects of #Swachhata. Our #SwachhataWarriors are tirelessly sweeping and cleaning the streets of Surat. Now all our City needs is its citizen’s commitment and support. You can play your part as a good citizen by:

  •     Segregating wet & dry waste
  •     Home composting
  •     Leading cleanliness drives in your area
  •    Reducing the use of single-use plastic
  •    Participating in Citizen feedback activities
  •   Offering “Shramdan” as your city’s #SwachhataVolunteer.

Let’s make the old saying “Surat Sonani Murat” (Translation: Surat! A city as beautiful as a golden statue) come true, iss baar #No1BanegaSurat .
